Gadgetbox – Google+ app works on iPad now … kinda

As soon as the Google+ app became available for the iPhone, folks started pleading for iPad support to be added. Well, it’s here now — along with iPod Touch optimization— but it might not be what everyone was hoping for.

The change came when the official Google+ app found in the Apple App Store became a universal app — meaning that it can now run on various iOS devices. At that point, iPod Touch and iPad users were finally granted access to what their iPhone-carrying friends have been enjoying for a while. The iPad users got the short end of the stick though: The iPad version of the Google+ app is basically just a scaled up version of the iPhone app — it doesn’t feel optimized for the tablet’s large display.

That pesky issue aside though, the Google+ app has definitely improved since we first saw it. A lot of the stability issues which initially plagued us have disappeared and the app appears to run more smoothly.

Facebook on Wednesday announced heightened privacy controls for members of the world’s largest online social network. The security enhancements came on the heels of a hacker posting a bogus message on the public fan page of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg suggesting that the website pursue social good instead of business profit. The release of improved tools for protecting the content of users’ profiles was tied to an international Data Privacy Day this week, according to Facebook.

Are this year’s CES attendees afraid of Apple? | CES 2011 Live Coverage News – Betanews

It’s the question I’ve been asking all week. The Consumer Electronics Show doesn’t officially start until tomorrow but unofficially tonight with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s 9:30 ET keynote. Yet there have been major announcements and press briefings all week. It’s as if vendor attendees are rushing and stumbling over one another to get out their news before January 6. Now why is that? There’s more than CES going on tomorrow. Apple will launch the Mac App Store. In mid December, when the launch date was announced, I asserted: “Apple crashes CES party with Mac App Store.” Perhaps many vendors fear the same. I don’t recall there ever being so much news before the show’s start. Amazon, ASUS, AT&T, Intel, Lenovo, LG, Netflix, Samsung and Vizio are just a sampling of major vendors holding big press events and/or making major announcements since Monday.

The trojan is capable of taking control of users’ phones to transmit information to a remote server.

A sophisticated trojan dubbed Gemini is threatening Android devices in China and could spread to devices in other regions, according to a new report issued by the security firm Lookout.

The firm claims the trojan may be the most advanced bit of Android malware to date and is the first to display “botnet-like capablities.” That means that once the trojan is installed on an Android phone, a remote server will be able to access the device and gain a level of control over it — frightening stuff, indeed.

Earlier this week, Level 3 set off a public relations war with cable and broadband giant Comcast as it described an ongoing commercial dispute between the two companies. The newly found planet is believed to have come from outside the Milky Way galaxy — the remnant of another fading galaxy that was consumed by our own. It’s stuck on a 16-day orbit around a fading red giant star about 2,000 light-years from Earth. The planet, dubbed HIP-13044b, is believed to be about 1.25 times larger than Jupiter, in our own solar system. It was spotted by a sophisticated, 4-meter mirrored telescope operated by astronomers at the European Southern Observatory in Chile.
